DePaul Opera Theatre artists continue to make vital contributions to opera around the world.
Cecelia Hall made her Metropolitan Opera debut in Iphigenia. Ms. Hall joins Christopher Feigum who made his Metropolitan Opera debut in The Nose and Brandon Mayberry who is in the Met chorus as alumni singing there this year. Mr. Feigum sang his San Francisco Opera debut as Figaro a role he takes in Tulsa Opera later in the season, Mr. Feigum has been heard at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Silvio in Pagliacci, as well as having great success as Leacaut in Manon, and Lescaut in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut and Mercutio in Romeo and Juliette and as Sam in A Quiet Place at City Opera. Mr. Feigum was a member of the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, joining Stephen Powell, Jeffrey Ray, and Brandon Mayberry as alumni who have been members of that program. Cecilia Hall will join the Ryan Center this spring. Alumni also include two Metropolitan Opera Audition National Council winners, Elizabeth Norman and Mary Petro.
Metropolitan Opera artist Stephen Powell sang Germont in La Traviata at San Francisco Opera a role he will perform in Baltimore this spring, he will sing Scarpia in Tosca with Minnesota opera and Guiche in Cyrano di Bergerac for San Francisco Opera with Placido Domingo. Jessica Klein is a member of the Julliard Opera Center where she sang Miss Gibbs in Our Town and sang Kate Pinkerton in the New York City Opera production of Madama Butterfly as well asGiorgetta in Il Tabarro at Chateauville, L. Maazel Summer Festival and Anna in Intermezzo with New York City Opera. Rebekah Camm continued with the Houston Opera season where she sang Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and Micaela in Carmen on the main stage, a role she sang at D.O.T., and Pamina in Flute, Ms. Camm sang Nella in Gianni Schicchi in Los Angeles, directed by Woody Allen and Susanna in San Francisco Figaro. Janai Brugger Orman sang in the Lyric Opera Elixir student tour and the Merola program at San Francisco Opera this summer and is now in the Los Angeles Opera program and performed Barbarina in Figaro conducted by Placido Dimingo. Ms. Orman will be in the Ravinia Sterns center this summer and is engaged to sing Musetta with Los Angeles opera next year. Courtney McKeown sang Marcelina for Gilmmerglass Opera, Flora in La Traviata at Dayton Opera andOlga in Merry Widow at New Jersey Opera. Rachel Cobb, sang Butterfly for Panama Opera, Mimi for Opera on the James and Miss Jessel in Turn of the Screw at Glyndbourne Festival in England. Coleen Daly sang Manon (Massenet), Violetta, Katya, and Lucia for the Academy of Vocal Arts and The Queen of the Night for New Jersey Opera Theater. Michelle Culbertson released a CD of hip hop arrangements of opera arias under the name Micaela Haley.
Chelsea Shephard Morris and current student Elena Snow sang in the DuPage Opera Theater production of Elixir, Ms. Morris sang in Coronation of Poppea with alum Brent Ryan at Rice University, Mr. Ryan sang in Houston Symphony L'heure Espagnole. Lindsey Metzger sang in the New Philharmonic Gianni Schicchi. Bergen Ellis Baker sang second lady in Magic Flute for Minnesota Orchestra. Lindsey Metzger performed Nella in Gianni Schicchi for the New Philharmonic Orchestra. Stuart Thompson sang Father in Hansel and Gretel with Nashville Opera, a role he sang for DOT, and will join the Apprentice Artist program with Sarasota Opera. Sammantha Jo Staggs sang in the chorus for Rusalka with Opera Colorado and will sing 1st Lady in Die Zauberflöte with the International Lyric Academy in Rome and Viterbo, Italy. Bergen (Ellis) Baker sang the role of Sharon Falconer in the Minnesota premier of Elmer Gantry at the U of M. and will perform Second Lady with the Minnesota Orchestra in their production of Magic Flute (Jan, 2011). Christopher Filipowicz sang Bartolo for Opera Nashville.
Elly Kakacek and David Green preformed in Gondoliers for Savoyaires. Brian Hotchkin sang in Chamber Opera Chicago Amahl and the Night Visitors along with faculty member Christopher Lorimer. Rent Ryan sang Leon in Ghost of Versailles at Aspen. Jennifer Kosharsky sang Eboli in Don Carlo for Opera in the Heights Houston. Gregory Henkel is Director of Artistic Administration for San Francisco Opera.Harry Silverstein directed Carmen for Lyric Opera of Chicago, singing in the Lyric Opera chorus are Lijana Pauletti, Martha Kasten, Nina Heebink and Harold Brock.
